Confession #85 - Fear Not

T he politics of the day have found me glued to the media outlets of my choice. The ups and downs of today’s climate have found me in nail-biting anticipation for resolutions. Like everyone, I want everything to get better for us and for our country. The financial climate, the lockdowns, the pandemic, the racial unrest, the destruction of monuments, and the great divide between Americans. All of this has gotten me so out of whack. I almost forgot who God is and what He says about all these issues.   Jesus didn’t promise us a perfect life after we become His follower, He told us straight out in John 16:33, “In this world, you will have trouble.” I don’t know a single person that doesn’t or hasn’t had some troubles in their lives. God tells us not to worry over, and over again. As a matter of fact, it says “Fear not” in the Bible 365 times. That’s pretty interesting. God must know that we wake each morning with another “fear” or worry so he gave us this command one ...

Confession #79 - Not such Stranger Things

Not much of a thriller enthusiast, I was never really drawn to sci-fi and scary movies.  My twelve year old daughter, on the other hand, loves them.  She has a love of dark things that I can't quite relate to.  As a lover of Christ, it concerns me, but that's a topic for another day. Finally indulging her curiosity, we watched the Netflix show "Stranger Things" together.  Surprisingly, after the first episode I was hooked.  Being a kid from the 80's the show is an homage to that era and includes references and music that brings me right back to my younger days. In the story there's a place, another dimension so to speak, called the "upside down".  It's a mirror of the world we live in but with darkness and alien-like matter growing everywhere and certainly danger all around.  At any given moment this horrible flesh-eating monster can capture you becoming a lifeless incubator of  it's spawn.  Gross, yet somehow still entertaining, LOL...

Confession #53 - A Real Test of Faith (Part III) Test PASSED!

The mail… it can hold all your hopes and dreams.  It can be a source of despair and doom.  The contents of one single envelope can single-handedly change the course of one’s life.  It can even hold a miracle. For a few weeks now I have been trusting God for a miracle.  In my blog posts, “A Real Test of Faith Part I and Part II ” I wrote about how I've been trusting God for a miracle concerning a threat of being priced right out of my mortgage.  I wrote how I've decided to just leave it in God’s hands and vowed not to worry about it.  I reckoned what will be, will be.  And I did just that. For the last few weeks I've given it little thought.  I gave it to God completely through prayer and trusted that God would work it for my good.   Worry no longer entered the equation because the peace of God reigned in my heart as I hung my faith on Him. But you know, I think God works in really funny ways.  I think He sometimes choose...
