Confession #79 - Not such Stranger Things

Not much of a thriller enthusiast, I was never really drawn to sci-fi and scary movies.  My twelve year old daughter, on the other hand, loves them.  She has a love of dark things that I can't quite relate to.  As a lover of Christ, it concerns me, but that's a topic for another day. Finally indulging her curiosity, we watched the Netflix show "Stranger Things" together.  Surprisingly, after the first episode I was hooked.  Being a kid from the 80's the show is an homage to that era and includes references and music that brings me right back to my younger days. In the story there's a place, another dimension so to speak, called the "upside down".  It's a mirror of the world we live in but with darkness and alien-like matter growing everywhere and certainly danger all around.  At any given moment this horrible flesh-eating monster can capture you becoming a lifeless incubator of  it's spawn.  Gross, yet somehow still entertaining, LOL...

Confession #68 - I will Survive and Blog on!

"At first I was afraid I was petrified, thinking I could never live without you by my side.  I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong, but I grew strong, and I learned how to get along...."   These are words of wisdom from Gloria Gaynor's hit no. 1 song  "I will survive" in 1980.  They come to mind because of a recent issue I've had to wrestle with. An issue that halted my blogging for a while.  It's got me thinking quite a bit about wisdom and how in the absence of it we tend to make ourselves look utterly foolish. The word wisdom is used 51 times in the book of Proverbs alone, and the phase "get wisdom" is in the Bible six times.  I'm pretty sure that's much more than a hint!  So just what is wisdom?  Often people mistake wisdom for prudence, knowledge, experience, understanding. It really is none of these things. Reading books and articles on subjects may give us a head knowledge of things, just as simply reading the...

Confession #35 - There's no place like home, the comfort zone

It's 2013!  The start of a new year and with it comes the promise of opportunity and change.  Most of us have spent time ironing out our resolutions and putting them into practice.  I too have considered what needs altering in my life and how to go about doing it, but I'm concerned that my Dorothy Gale complex is getting in the way.  "There's no place like home there's no place like home there's no place like home", Dorothy repeated those words over and over again until she woke from her Oz slumber and was reunited with her family.  Despite the fact that Dorothy had visited an incredible new land, met new friends, faced her fears and overcame tremendous peril, Dorothy couldn't wait to get back to her comfort zone, home.  Dorothy was terrified on her the journey inside the tornado.  When she readched the destination a wonderous, magical land managed to smiled and was friendly and gracious however, she remained on her a quest to get out of ther...

Confession #17 - There's a little Chicken Inside

O ne of my good friends posted this on her facebook page a few days ago:  Since after church on Sunday, our daughter has been asking if we or she has a chicken inside? We assumed it was a part of their lesson, but could not figure out where that come from. Well, my husband cracked the code today: They have been learning about the Holy Spirit in Children's Church and about God's Power. They were telling them to "not be a chicken" when standing up for what you believe in and telling other's about God's love. LOL! As my husband tried to explain what "being a chicken" meant, our daughter got it, she said, "Well, I don't have to be a chicken because I have the Power!" Love how literal kids take things. This post hit me in the gut.  As cute as it may be, it served to remind me that sometimes I have a little chicken inside me too.  There are so many instances where I've failed to share the gospel with someone because I don't kn...
