Confession #51 - Choices, Choices, Choices

Like many of you, I've suffered the pain of other's actions many a time.  Flawed people who have flawed intentions leaving nasty marks on my life.  For me, giving people a place in my life has become an honor.  Not to sound crass but I am rather selective over whom I allow and who I do not allow in my world .  And some I allow but keep at a safe distance.  Truth be told, I don't know if this is a Godly approach or just a defense mechanism but because I've been hurt many times before it's become necessary for me to weed out those who add no value in my life. As I'm realizing, many people I know have been there done that too.  But one thing is troubling me...lately I've seen many a facebook post about how God puts people in our lives for a reason and sometimes that reason is to hurt us.  Like this one for example: Honestly I disagree.  While some relationships are God given others are by choice.  And even...

Confession #29 - Analyze This, that and everything else

A few weeks ago a friend was in distress.  She was going through a situation with a fellow church goer who was verbally attacking her for seemingly no reason.  While trying to offer her some Godly guidance she couldn't hear me because she was constantly asking, "Why?"  "I don't understand, why is she doing this to me?"  "What did I do to deserve this?"  She was so focused on trying to analyze the "why" of the situation she was unable to hear what God wanted me to say to her.  We often do the same thing with God.  "Why God why?"  "When God When?"  "Who God Who?"  "What about this?"  "What about that?"  "How could this have happened?"  "Why did you allow this to happen to me?"  We want to analyze this, that and everything else until we completely understand the what, the why, and the how in an effort to avoid future pain, loss and disappointment.  I have been there, d...

Confession # 20 - Warning confessions can be detrimental to your health!

Before I post my next confession let me just say: I'm back baby!  I've have taken a tiny sabbatical from blogging for the last month, one, because I have been preparing for my speaking engagement at the Women's Ministry event last Saturday, and two,  because the Lord has been working on me in some areas of my life.  In fact because of some of my confessions God has sought fit to "deal" with me. : )  It's all good and I am making progress but there's been quite a bit of growing pains along the way.  For example, in previous posts I've confessed that:, I want to get away, and God's forced me to face some huge issues in my life that I've been avoiding.  I've also confessed that I don't do confrontations, and in this short month I've been faced with three of the largest confrontational experiences of my life!  Additionally I've confessed that I need to clean up this mess and get myself well.  Consequently, God has reve...

Confession #10 - Girl I've Gotta Vent! I don't do Confrontations

G ood girlfriends are the best and sometimes hard to find!  But when you do, they are priceless.  These are the gals ya' call up and cry, "Girl I've gotta vent!".  They're the ladies that you meet at Starbucks once a week for a chat, the ladies who's kids you set up play dates with so you can have a date with them too.  They're sometimes even the girl that lives far away that you can't go a week without a phone call to.  I love my girlfriends, and frankly I wouldn't want to do life without them.  But what do you do when a friend, a good friend hurts you over and over again?  Let me preface the rest of my confession by explaining that I don't consider myself a hypersensitive person.  Things do not easily bother me, but hurting people, hurt people and since most of us have hurts in our pasts then well, you know... See, I've had issues with friends in my past; ladies that frankly aren't my friends any longer.  Why?  Becau...
